Get the 411 on your PATTERN FIRST
You have a new pattern and you're excited to begin, but please, check out these facts before you start to ensure maximum success with your project! Believe me, I know from experience, how quickly a pattern can go awry when you are a beginning knitter.
You should definitely look at these topics before beginning your pattern.
Check the skill rating. It should always be included in your pattern.
SIZE MATTERS
Making a fitted piece? Check your measurements.
Beginner projects are usually small and don't need to be fitted, but as you grow, and become more skilled, you'll want to look at the measurements for a pattern to make sure it will fit you.
GAUGE
It will help you so please get in the habit right away. The gauge looks like this: Example: six stitches and 10 rows equals four inches in pattern stitch on size 13 needles. These means if you knit six stitches and 10 rows, you should get a four-inch square. If you don't get the size suggested than try either larger or smaller sized needles to get the correct measurement.
NEED YARNIE DESCRIPTIONS? YOU'LL KNOW WITH PATTERN INFO
It will tell you what kind of yarn was used in the pattern, what size needles and any other special tools you might need. It will also indicate how much yarn you need to buy. You don't have to use the exact yarn that was used in the pattern. Substitute a yarn with a similar weight or thickness.
